List of sports postponements




        Selected sports events canceled or postponed because of Tuesday's terrorist attacks:

        AUTO RACING—NASCAR canceled the Friday qualifying session for the New Hampshire 300 and is undecided on whether the race will be held. Two events in Fort Worth, Texas, the IRL Chevy 500 and the NASCAR Craftsman Trucks Silverado 350, will go on as scheduled on Sunday and Saturday, respectively, but Friday qualifying sessions for both events have been canceled. NHRA postponed the Keystone Nationals in Reading, Pa., until Oct.4-7.

        BASEBALL—All major-league games are postponed through today. The International, Pacific Coast, California and New York-Penn leagues have canceled the remainder of their championship series. Other leagues still in playoffs are postponed through today.

        BOXING—The undisputed middleweight title fight between Felix Trinidad and Bernard Hopkins, scheduled for Saturday at Madison Square Garden, has been postponed. No makeup date has been announced.

        COLLEGE FOOTBALL—Division I-A games scheduled for today: Ohio at N.C. State, Texas Tech at UTEP (tentatively rescheduled for Saturday) and Penn State at Virginia. Division I-A games scheduled for Saturday: 29 postponed including Kentucky at Indiana, Rice at Nebraska, Georgia Tech at Florida State, Duke at Clemson, San Diego State at Ohio State, Stanford at San Jose State, Arizona State at UCLA, Notre Dame at Purdue and all six games involving Big East schools. Navy and Northwestern canceled their game. Also, 10 games from Division I-AA were postponed and four were canceled.

        OTHER COLLEGE SPORTS—The Atlantic Coast Conference postponed all events through today. The Big West Con ference has postponed all events through today and any events involving air travel through Saturday. The Big East and Pac-10 postponed all conference competition through the weekend. The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has postponed all competition involving members through Sunday.

        The Miami volleyball team will play locally in the Kentucky Invitational instead of traveling to play at a tournament in Colorado as scheduled. The football team will travel to Kent for its scheduled game at 6p.m. Saturday.

        Xavier's volleyball matches at Northern Illinois this weekend have been cancelled with no make-up date set. All other XU athletic events will go on as scheduled.

        GOLF—All four PGA Tour-sanctioned events, the American Express Championship, Tampa Bay Classic, Vantage Championship and Buy.com Oregon Classic, have been canceled.

        HOCKEY — The NHL canceled its first day of the preseason, scrapping 12 exhibition games scheduled for Saturday.

        HORSE RACING—The Thoroughbred Racing Association canceled all its cards Tuesday, and Wednesday's racing was called off at Arlington Park, Pimlico Race Course and Turfway Park. Belmont Park and Yonkers Raceway, both in New York, called off their cards through Friday.

        SOCCER—Four MLS games scheduled for Wednesday, and A-League playoff games scheduled for this week. In Europe, eight Champions League games scheduled for Wednesday and 40 UEFA Cup games scheduled for Thursday were postponed.

        WRESTLING—The World Championships of Wrestling Tour of Legends event, scheduled for Wednesday at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., has been canceled.
