Taylor's Lariccia key in two wins
The Cincinnati Enquirer
The Taylor girls cross country team, ranked seventh in the state in Division II, easily won the Taylor Invitational at Mitchell Park with a school-best score of 22 points Saturday.
Sophomore Carrie Crofford and freshman Casey Lariccia finished one-two for Taylor, with times of 20:30 and 20:51.
These girls are awesome, fourth-year Taylor coach Chip Dobson said. They made it to regional last year, and as long as nothing goofy happens, we should go to state this season.
Only three teams from each region advance to state this year, rather than four.
Wyoming will give us trouble, but we've already beaten Kings and (Kettering) Alter, Dobson said.
Girls soccer
Taylor's Lariccia wasn't done Saturday after the cross country meet. She scored one of Taylor's goals in its 4-0 soccer victory over Purcell Marian.
Kristen and Ashley Gerwin both scored in the first half, and Sara Schmidt and Lariccia added scores in the second half.
Walnut Hills 2, McNicholas 1 Tamara Fennel was a one-player wrecking crew for Walnut Hills.
Besides assisting on Lindsay Scheer's tying goal five minutes into the second half, Fennel scored an unassisted goal with 17 minutes remaining.
It was a brilliant individual effort, Walnut Hills coach Bob Muro said. She dribbled through the defense and scored on a shot from 20 yards out.
Boys soccer
Roger Bacon coach Dick Arszman was more than happy after the Spartans and St.Xavier ended up 0-0. We start five sophomores and four juniors, and this should be a good learning experience for them, Arszman said. They outplayed us, but we played good defense, which is a good place to start.
