Cincinnati's Blessid Union of Souls will sing America the Beautiful at a freedom rally Friday at Paul Brown Stadium to benefit terrorist victims and pray for our country.
The 40- to 50-minute program, A Celebration of Patriotism and Remembrance, will begin at 7 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m.
The rally, sponsored by Hamilton County, the American Red Cross, WRRM-FM (98.5), WMOJ-FM (94.9), WCPO-TV (Channel 9), The Cincinnati Enquirer and Cincinnati.com, will include prayer, music, fireworks and a 50,000 glow-stick salute. Ohio Gov. Bob Taft will attend.
It's only right to allow the community to gather together there for a vigil to reflect on what has happened to our nation, to pray for the survivors and remember those who have lost their lives, said Hamilton County Commission President John Dowlin. We also need to pray for President Bush and our nation's leaders as they plan our nation's response.
Organizers hope 50,000 people will come to honor those in uniform, especially police, firefighters and emergency medical technicians.
The Red Cross will collect donations to the sound of the Hamilton County Pipe and Drum Corps and Walnut Hills High School band and chorus. Other performers will be announced.
The radio stations will broadcast live from the stadium plaza Friday. Channel 9 will air live shots from the stadium during its 5, 5:30 and 6 p.m. newscasts. Parking is free in Hamilton County parking lots.
