Bonds Watch: No homers
SAN FRANCISCO Barry Bonds did not hit a home run Wednesday night and will need eight in the final 16 games to break Mark McGwire's record of 70.
Barry Bonds, who leads the majors with 63 home runs, was 1-for-3 with a walk and a single in the Giants' 10-3 loss to the Astros.
Dave Mlicki allowed three hits in seven shutout innings and Moises Alou hit a three-run homer to lead the Astros.
Before the game, several players including Bonds wore T-shirts reading FDNY God Bless to honor the efforts of New York firefighters in the tragedy at the World Trade Center last week.
Houston, which had 14 hits but made a season-high four errors, maintained a 4 1/2-game lead over second-place St. Louis in the NL Central. The Giants remained two games behind Arizona in the NL West.
