Fort Campbell deploys soldiers
FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division were deployed to support security enhancement in Kentucky and Indiana, officials said Tuesday.
Fewer than 200 soldiers went to the Blue Grass Army Depot near Richmond, Ky., which stores conventional and chemical weapons, said David Easter, depot spokesman.
Another contingent of about the same size went to an Army ammunition plant in Newport, Ind., where chemical weapons are also stored, spokeswoman Terry Arthur said.
The troops were sent by the Army to augment security, she said.
We're not reacting to any specific threat, Ms. Arthur said.
All CVG badges to be checked
HEBRON Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is conducting an audit of all 10,000 employees who have the badges that are required to enter secure areas, Joe Weil, the airport's security coordinator, said Tuesday.
The audit, which will be done by Monday, will visually verify that the employee matches the badge and that background checks have been done. The FAA requires that all employees for the airport, airlines, contractors and concessionaires with access to secure areas undergo a five-year job history check and a 10-year background check.
Mr. Weil said the airport routinely audits such badges, but that the systemwide audit was ordered after the Sept. 11 attacks.
