Trial delayed in Ky. pilot's slaying
The Cincinnati Enquirer
COVINGTON Kenton Circuit Judge Patricia Summe has pushed back the murder trial of two people facing the death penalty to next April.
Judge Summe said it would be difficult for members of the jury to focus during a potential six-week trial so soon after the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the United States.
Adele Craven, 38, of Edgewood and Ronald Pryor, 34, of Independence were scheduled to stand trial Oct. 17. The pair are charged with murder in connection to the July 2000 death of Mrs. Craven's husband, Delta pilot Steven Craven, 38.
Before the Sept. 11 attacks, Mrs. Craven's defense had asked for more time to prepare.
Mr. Pryor's defense filed a motion for a trial to be moved back after the attack, citing public sympathy for airline pilots.
A third defendant, Russell McIntire, 33, of Erlanger, has pleaded guilty to murder and agreed to testify against Mrs. Craven and Mr. Pryor. For his cooperation, he will avoid the death penalty. Prosecutors are recommending a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole for 25 years.
Police say Mrs. Craven wanted her husband dead so she could pursue an affair with Mr. McIntire, and because she wanted a part of her husband's sizeable life insurance policy.
The Cravens' two sons are being cared for by a relative.
