Big weekend opener planned at Keeneland

Keeneland Race Course (www.keeneland.com) will include 10 stakes races, six of them graded, and purses totaling $3.7 million on the first three days of its 17-day fall thoroughbred racing meet, starting Friday.
Post time is 1:15 p.m., except closing day, Oct. 27, when Keeneland will run four live races, starting at 11:15 a.m., and then simulcast the entire Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships from Belmont Park. Racing is Wednesday through Sunday.
All six graded stakes to be run at Keeneland during the FallStars Weekend (Oct 5, 6, 7) serve as stepping stones to the Breeders' Cup races.
The winners of 19 Breeders' Cup races made their previous start at Keeneland.
It stars opening day (Friday) with the $500,000 Grade II WinStar Galaxy Stakes for fillies and mares on the turf and the $400,000 Grade II Walmac Int'l Alcibiades States for 2-year-old fillies.
On Saturday, there are the $400,000 Grade II Lane's End Breeders' Futurity for 2-year-olds and the $250,000 Grade III Phoenix Breeders' Cup for older sprinter horses.
On Sunday, there are the $500,000 Grade I Spinster Stakes for fillies and mares and the $500,000,000 Grade II Shadwell Keeneland Turf Mile for grass specialists.
On Sunday, there will be a Four Stakes Pick Four, combining Keenelaned's Spinster and Shadwell with the $400,000 Grade II Goodwood Breeders' Cup Handicap and the $200,000 Grade II Oak Tree Breeders' Cup Mile at Santa Anita.
ESPN2 will televise all four races from 7:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. The Keeneland races will be tape-delayed.
