Web site provides tax levy figures
By Dan Klepal
The Cincinnati Enquirer
How much will the proposed November tax to provide health care to poor people cost homeowners in Hamilton County? How about that water system levy in Addyston?
To find out, just visit Hamilton County Auditor Dusty Rhodes' Web site, www.hamiltoncountyauditor.org.
Mr. Rhodes' office has long been in the fast lane on the information superhighway. The office shifted into a new gear with the addition of the new tax levy service for voters.
By accessing the property records on the site, a homeowner can go to a levy tab on the property's record to see the actual effect of new levies based on the property's current value.
This is just another way to empower the voters, Mr. Rhodes said. This is vital information which allows voters to see what they will pay for the services proposed if new levies are approved.
It's all a part of holding government accountable to the people who pay for it.
Mr. Rhodes' current Citizen's Annual Financial Report also is posted on the Web site. It contains an explanation of the county's existing special tax levies.
The auditor's Internet service provider wrote the program for a nominal cost.
