Foreign students attacked
The Associated Press
LEXINGTON A Japanese student was assaulted on the University of Kentucky campus Friday, the third attack on an international student in seven days.
Ippei Inoue, 23, a senior sociology major from Tokyo, was walking near the William T. Young Library about 3:15 p.m. when a black pickup pulled up beside him, a police report said.
Someone in the passenger seat asked Mr. Inoue for directions, and showed him a piece of paper with a phone number on it, the report said. Mr. Inoue took the paper, but said he couldn't help the passenger. The passenger then hit Mr. Inoue in the face, the report said.
The other attacks also took place near the library. They occurred last Friday and Saturday.
In the first attack, Loay Elbasyouni, 22, a Palestinian student, was delivering a pizza to the Blanding Tower dormitory, when he saw one of five men removing the pizza sign from his vehicle.
Mr. Elbasyouni said the men shoved and struck him. He suffered a black eye and a twisted ankle. He also said the men yelled epithets and slurs, and told him he shouldn't be in the country.
The next night, Sachin Nagane of India, who is studying for his master's degree in systems engineering, was hit in the face in an incident similar to the attack on Mr. Inoue. Mr. Nagane said a passenger in a black pickup asked him for directions and lured him near the truck before hitting him.
Campus police believe the incidents are related. They released a description of the pickup's suspected passenger on Friday.
He is described as white, between 20 and 25 years old with blond hair and a medium build.
Police say they're searching for a customized black Chevrolet S-10 pickup with sidesteps and white taillight covers.
