Mariemont girls record sweep

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Capping off a week in which it played only ranked teams, the No.6 Mariemont girls soccer team came out with the sweep, posting a 1-0 victory over top-ranked Roger Bacon at Roger Bacon.

Earlier in the week, Mariemont bested Madeira, ranked 10th in the Enquirer's Division IIcoaches poll, and fifth-ranked Summit Country Day 2-1.

Lauren Potts provided the game's lone goal Saturday with 3:50 to play. Whitney Raeon took the ball outside and hit Jen Sarran in stride. Sarran then executed a picture-perfect cross to Potts in front of the goal.

Raeon and Casey Clukey combined for the shutout, their fourth of the season.

Boys soccer

        • Summit 1, Indian Hill 0 — Jebron Shteiwi passed the ball over to Patrick Newton, who then beat two defenders and put the ball past the keeper from 20 yards out for the lone goal.

Josh Thurow set aside eight shots for his seventh shutout of the season.

        • Moeller 3, Alter 1 — Moeller clinched at least a tie for the Greater Catholic League South division title with a victory over the top-ranked Division II team in the state.

The league title is the first for Moeller since 1996. Kent Walker scored two goals and Bob Trybula had two assists to lead the Crusaders, who went up 2-1 at halftime.

        • North College Hill 6, Reading 0 — David Benedict scored four goals, giving him 83 for his career and breaking his older brother, Kevin's, career school record of 82. Kevin graduated in 1996.
