Officer fires 3 shots at suspect
Man, who was later captured, not hit

A Cincinnati police officer fired three shots at a fleeing man in a Corryville alley Wednesday night, but the bullets did not hit the man, who was later arrested.
The shooting occurred about 6:55 p.m. in Van Alley in the rear of the Cincinnati firehouse at 2814 Vine St.
Police Chief Tom Streicher said the man confronted and challenged two officers who were pursuing him, and one officer fired three shots. The man was apprehended hiding in a nearby wooded area, police said.
Police were searching that wooded area near the shooting scene late Wednesday with the help of a police dog to see if there was any type of weapon that the suspect may have discarded, Chief Streicher said.
Brandon Wheeler, 19, of Corryville, who said he witnessed most of the shooting incident, said the fleeing man had his hand in his pocket, like he was grabbing something.
Both officers involved in the foot pursuit are African-American, as is the suspect, the police chief said. The officer who fired the shots is an eight-year veteran of the police division, he said.
The incident began, Chief Streicher said, when officers responded nearby in the 2800 block of Glendora Avenue for a report of a car window being shot out. When officers searching for a suspect in that incident approached a group of young men standing on the corner of Euclid Avenue and East Daniels Street, one took off running west on Daniels and north on Van Alley, the chief said.
The cop was running behind him, Mr. Wheeler said. He (the officer) fired three times.
Mr. Wheeler said the suspect had nothing to do with the incident in which the car window was shot out.
During the pursuit, an officer could be heard saying on his two-way radio that the shots did not take effect.
The names of the officers involved and the suspect, and any charges filed against him, were not available from police officials Wednesday night.
Anyone with information on the shooting incident is requested to call Crime Stoppers at 352-3040.
