CHCA doubles team claims district title

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Finishing runner-up the last three years in the state meet, senior Jen Detkas of Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy hopes her fourth partner in as many years allows her to win the state Division II meet this season.

CHCA's doubles team of Detkas and Shandon Dowiatt hasn't been challenged thus far in the postseason.

Detkas and Dowiatt dispatched Badin's Meg Stephenson and Kristin Gorman 6-4, 6-0 in the first round; Milton Union's Susan Penny and Betsy Cress 6-1, 6-3 in the second round; and Alter's Kristin Budde and Abby Showalter 6-4, 6-0 in the semifinals en route to winning the district meet.

CHCA also sends Alex Gross to state in singles. Gross defeated Kylee Wiegand of Badin in the final, 6-4, 6-1.

Cincinnati Country Day is sending both its doubles teams to the state meet. Jenna Tysoe and Ashley Baker finished second to CHCA 6-4, 6-1, and the team of Annie Barrett and Sarah Tysoe won the fifth-place match over Milton Union's Julie Kubicki and Sarah Peters.

In Division I, Grace Kammerer of Seton finished third, defeating Nicole Muzechuk of Chaminade-Julienne to advance to state. Catherine Starr of Walnut Hills also advanced in singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Kelly Six of Princeton.

In doubles action, Ursuline's team of Andye Kelley and Catherine Rentschler took first place with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lakota West's Marci Morgan and Ashley Jones.

Anderson's team of Christina Leavy and Emily Okerson also advanced with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Troy's Julie Grove and Sara Spear in the fifth-place match.
