Congrats


Lakota East grad wins competition

        Jen Ferrell, a graduate of Lakota East High School and flutist with the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra, was a winner in the Cincinnati Flute Association's 2001 Competition.

        She received a cash award and played at the association's final yearly meeting.

        The daughter of Carol and David Ferrell of Liberty Township is pursuing a career in flute performance at the University of Akron, Ohio as a Pixley Talent Scholar.

UD scholarship

               McAuley High School graduate Elizabeth Metz received a full-tuition scholarship from the University of Dayton, Ohio.

        The daughter of Carol and Joe Metz of Winton Place will seek a double major in English and visual communication.

Braces to college

               The office of orthodontist James Thacker awarded scholarships to high school patients based on the applicant's academics, community service and an essay titled, “How Braces Have Affected My Life.”

        Recipients were: Jill Delaney, a graduate of Bethel-Tate High School; Kate Kloppenborg, a senior at McNicholas High School; and McKenzie Kugler, a student at Purcell Marian High School.

Hixson Award given

               Thomas J. Reuter was presented the Hixson Award by the Price Hill Western Hills Kiwanis Club for 25 years of volunteer service and chairing the club's Toy Wrap and Food Basket Program.

Dean's list honors

               The following were named to the dean's lists of their college or university:

        Sophomore Megan Erb made the spring list at Denison University, Granville, Ohio. The Kings High School graduate is the daughter of Marguerite and Oscar Erb of Deerfield Township.

        Sophomore Brandon Sears made the spring quarter list, denoting at least a 3.75 grade point average, at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. The son of Sally and Rich Sears of West Chester Township attends the Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science.

        Gwen Sikora, a senior early education major, made the dean's list for the third consecutive time at Miami University, Oxford. She is the daughter of Jan and Marty Sikora of Oxford, formerly of Montgomery.
