UC faculty to vote on strike permission
University of Cincinnati faculty, frustrated by the impasse in contract negotiations, will take a formal strike authorization vote Thursday.
Their union, the American Association of University Professors, will convene at 4 p.m. at Old St. George Church at Jefferson Avenue and Calhoun Street in University Heights.
Only the 720 paid-up AAUP members will be allowed to cast secret paper ballots, but all 1,988 members of the bargaining unit may attend and speak, AAUP president Joe W. Fisher said Monday.
If it passes, the authorization frees the AAUP board to call the strike whenever it believes it is necessary.
The contract expired Aug. 31 but professors are teaching while bargaining continues.
