Area colleges roundup

Moeller grad Bailey honored

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Dayton senior tailback/captain Jermaine Bailey (Moeller) was named Pioneer Football League offensive player of the week after UD's come-from-behind 24-23 victory at Drake. He rushed for 143 yards on 21 carries, the last 15 yards on the game-winning touchdown with 2:06 left. Bailey also went over 2,000 yards rushing for his career.

UD (7-0, 3-0 PFL) is ranked No.1 in both the Football Gazette and Sports Network NCAA Division I-AA mid-major polls. The Flyers play host to Canisius at 1 p.m. Saturday in Welcome Stadium.

        MIAMI FOOTBALL:

Kickoff for Saturday's Mid-American Conference game against Western Michigan at Yager Stadium has been changed from 3 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. to allow for more daylight playing (with a 6:44 p.m. sunset).

        XAVIER:

The Musketeers earned Atlantic 10 performers of the week in women's cross country (Kerry Hils), men's tennis (Brent Lehring) and women's soccer (Tracy Veith). They had rookies of the week in volleyball (Molly Martin), men's tennis (Justin Yeager), women's cross country (Jaime Wyckoff) and men's cross country (Drew LaMaster).

Hils won top honors for the fifth time this season after winning the Stetson Invitational by 57 seconds, in 18:22. Lehring raised his singles record to 6-1. Vieth (St. Ursula) scored game-winning goals against Duquesne and St. Bonaventure.

        UC-CLERMONT:

Sophomore outside hitter Jenny Weaver (Roger Bacon) was named to the Ohio Regional Campus Conference volleyball all-tournament team. She had 38 kills and 5 service aces.

        CINCINNATI:

UC leads Conference USA in three sports — women's soccer, volleyball and football.
