Loveland superintendent to resign
Cline going to northwest Ohio school district
By Sue Kiesewetter
The Cincinnati Enquirer
LOVELAND Superintendent Michael Cline will leave Loveland Schools at the end of the year to become superintendent of the Perrysburg Exempted Village Schools in northwest Ohio.
Mr. Cline was hired by the Perrysburg Board of Education Thursday, contingent on his release from Loveland Schools. A letter of resignation will be considered by the Loveland board at Thursday's work session. Mr. Cline is tentatively scheduled to begin his new job Jan. 1.
Perrysburg is about 175 miles north of Cincinnati, near Toledo in Wood County.
"It's with mixed emotions I leave, said Mr. Cline, who is starting his fifth year as Loveland superintendent. "I'm very happy with things here in Loveland. This move will bring us closer to family. My daughter lives in Chicago and my wife, Karla, and I have family in Mansfield.
Loveland Administrative Assistant Doris Osborne said the board would probably appoint an interim superintendent once Mr. Cline leaves with the goal of naming a new superintendent next spring or early summer.
"We really are going to miss him. He's a great guy, Ms. Osborne said.
During his tenure in Loveland, Mr. Cline oversaw a $32 million construction project that built Loveland Intermediate School, gutted and remodeled the middle school and rewired the elementary building.
We've been a school district challenged by rapidly growing enrollment, Mr. Cline said. "Last year's opening was the culmination of three year's work one year to plan the project and two years to build it.
Mr. Osborne, 50, is beginning his 29th year in education, his 11th year as a superintendent.
Before coming to Loveland in 1997, he was superintendent of the Chillicothe City Schools in Southeast Ohio for four years and the Crestline Exempted Village Schools in northwest Ohio three years before that.
A Mansfield native, Mr. Cline holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Ohio State University and a doctorate from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
