MORROW There's no competition in this year's Little Miami Board of Education race, so the two candidates for two positions can look ahead to plans for the fast-growing district.
Board member Bobbie Grice is seeking re-election and Steven Rothwell is the only other candidate on the ballot, to replace Debbie Holliday, who is not seeking re-election. Last year, a $17 million high school opened. The next step is to assess the condition of five elementary and junior high schools as the area continues to grow rapidly. Much of the district is in Hamilton Township, which grew by 63 percent, to 9,630 people, in the past decade.
Mr. Rothwell said the elementary schools, many built in the 1930s,need to be renovated or rebuilt.
My main concern is the explosive growth in our community, Mr. Rothwell said.
Both candidates said the district will need to place an operating levy and a bond issue on the ballot to accomplish their goals.A
A graduate of the University of Cincinnati, Mr. Rothwell is employed in the radiology department at Bethesda and TriHealth Hospitals. He is also a math instructor for adult classes at the Warren County Career Center.
Mrs. Grice, a former teacher, is also a board member for the Warren County Career Center and serves as curriculum consultant at the Clermont County Education Service Center.
We have a great school district, Mrs. Grice said. Our main problem is growth we are almost at capacity now.
