Physician's group seeks men for trial
The Cincinnati Enquirer
UC Physicians, a large specialty physician group, seeks Tristate men to participate in a clinical trial of a drug that might prevent pre-cancerous lesions from developing into prostate cancer.
More than 500 men at 60 medical sites nationwide are expected to join a study of acapodene, a prostate cancer drug made by Finland-based Orion Pharma.
More than 198,000 American men are expected to be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year.
In smaller trials, acapodene reduced the incidence of cancer by up to 50 percent. Now, scientists hope to match that success rate in a larger clinical trial, said Dr. Bruce Bracken, the urology professor at the University of Cincinnati who will be leading part of the study.
