Incumbent trustees retained their offices in West Chester and Fairfield townships Tuesday, while voters approved a police levy in West Chester and overturned a rezoning in Liberty Township.
In West Chester Township, where growth issues such as roads, economic development and parks are key, incumbent Catherine Stoker led with 36 percent of the vote, followed by fellow incumbent Jose Alvarez, with 33 percent. First-time challenger Scott Owens had 31 percent.
In Fairfield Township, another community facing rapid-growth issues, incumbent Steve Morgan led the three-candidate slate with 40 percent of the vote, followed by incumbent Mark Sutton with 31 percent. Dean Langevin, in his first bid for office, had 29 percent.
The trustees serve four-year terms.
West Chester voters approved a 2.5-mill police levy, 54 percent to 46 percent. The levy will pay for five more police officers in each of the next five years to bring the department closer to the Midwest's average of 2.4 officers per 1,000 people. It will cost the owner of a $100,000 home $77 a year.
In Liberty Township, voters overturned a trustees decision to rezone two small parcels of land off Yankee Road, 53 percent to 47 percent. The parcels are just west of Cincinnati-Dayton Road and north of Michael A. Fox Highway .
The rezoning, approved by the township zoning commission and trustees, changed the zoning from residential to commercial business.
