LEBANON — Warren County voters favored a mixture of old and new faces for its boards of education Tuesday.

        Former Mayor Jackson Hedges led the field for Lebanon school board with 32 percent of the votes for one of two four-year terms. Incumbent Orville Robinson won re-election with 22 percent of the vote in a six-candidate field.

        Lebanon resident Rodney Long, 40, said he voted to return Mr. Robinson, the board president, and add Mr. Hedges. He likes the direction the system is headed.

        “I think we have a superintendent that's concerned with the child's welfare and not just his job,” Mr. Long said.

        David Romick, 37, also voted for Mr. Hedges, “because of what he said about growth and planning.”

        The most crowded field was in Kings Schools, where two of the three incumbents appeared headed for re-election. Hale J. Husband had 18 percent, followed closely by Becky Holloway and retired Kings teacher Bonnie Baker-Hicks.

        After the district opened two new elementary schools less than three months ago, the newly elected board will turn its attention to upgrading athletic facilities and the possibility of expanding Kings High School.

        In Mason, incumbent Connie Yingling led the field.

        The Mason board will oversee completion of the new high school/community center — slated to open next August on Hamilton-Mason Road — as well as issues related to growth. This year's enrollment of 7,357 is 646 students higher than last year, said Shelly Benesh, district spokeswoman.

        In Little Miami, incumbent Bobbie Grice and newcomer Stephen T. Rothwell knew before Tuesday's election that they would serve on the school board. They had no competition for the two open seats.

        “It's the first time ever in my career as a superintendent that I knew exactly who my board of education was going to be (before the votes were counted),” said Superintendent Ralph Shell.
