Dem bids for Kenton attorney

Mary 'Kate' Molloy to announce campaign platform Friday

By Patrick Crowley
The Cincinnati Enquirer

COVINGTON — The first and probably only Democrat to run next year for Kenton County attorney will formally enter the race Friday.

Crescent Springs lawyer Mary “Kate” Molloy, 45, will make her campaign announcement Friday at 5 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Fort Mitchell.

She is running for the office held by Republican county attorney Garry Edmondson of Fort Wright, a former Democrat seeking a third term.

Mr. Edmondson is challenged in the May GOP primary by Independence lawyer Eric Deters.

Democratic Party leaders have said they do not anticipate a contested primary.

Ms. Molloy, a partner at the Covington law firm Arnzen & Parry, grew up in Latonia. She said she will reveal her specific plans and platform Friday.

The county attorney gives legal advice to the fiscal court and other county offices and serves as prosecutor in District Court. The attorney also collects child support payments.

“That position needs a good lawyer, who gives good legal advice and who is firm and fair as a prosecutor,” she said.

Ms. Molloy has never held or run for office, but she has worked on judicial campaigns for Kentucky Court of Appeals Judge Dan Guidugli of Alexandria and two Kenton Circuit judges, Steve Jaeger and Greg Bartlett.
