Fair aims to link volunteers, agencies

By Patrick Crowley
The Cincinnati Enquirer

COVINGTON — You're named to the board of directors. Now what do you do?

Information about how to join and volunteer with area social service agencies and charities will be available today during the first Non-Profit Board Fair.

The event, open to all residents of Greater Cincinnati, will be from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center at RiverCenter Boulevard and Madison Avenue.

The fair is designed to bring together people in the region who are interested in serving on an area nonprofit board or committee or volunteering with an agency, said Trey Grayson, a Park Hills lawyer and one of the event's organizers.

“This event is designed to attract and identify a new legacy of leadership and volunteerism in the region,” Mr. Grayson said. “There are a lot of people who want to get involved with agencies or who want to volunteer with a nonprofit group, but they may not know how to go about doing that or realize what opportunities are available for them.

“This event is designed to bring the volunteers together with the organizations that need them,” he said.

Representatives of 38 nonprofit agencies will attend the fair to recruit volunteers.

Sessions on “Board Essentials” and “Building a Cohesive Board” will be held at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. and conducted by the United Way.

At 5 p.m. the event's keynote address will be delivered by Raymond H. Smith, director of Minority Business for the Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce.

The event is hosted by Legacy, an initiative of Forward Quest, the organization of Northern Kentucky business, community, government and social service leaders attempting to chart the region's growth.

The fair is sponsored by the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce, the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the Northern Kentucky Convention Center, Corporex, Fidelity Investments, Forward Quest, Toyota and the United Way.
