Three children were injured by flying glass Thursday morning when a gunman fired on two school buses in North Avondale, Cincinnati police said.

        The full buses were traveling north on Reading Road at 9 a.m. on their way to the Phoenix School, a charter facility in Swifton Commons in Bond Hill.

        The injured students, ages 8, 10 and 11, were treated at Children's Hospital, police said.

        Officer Anthony Ward said the child he transported to the hospital was released, and the other two were also not expected to be hospitalized. Their names were not released.

        Two of the children were hit in the face with shattered glass when the windows were hit, and the third child suffered a small cut just below the eye and also might have sustained a glass injury to his eye, Officer Ward said.

        The gunman, firing a BB or pellet gun, was seen sitting on the hood of a car at the intersection of Reading and Clinton Springs Avenue when the first Peterman Ltd. bus was hit, police said. The gunman is believed to be one of four people at the scene who may be involved in the incidents.

        The bus driver pulled over on Fred Shuttlesworth Drive. Another bus came shortly afterward and picked up the schoolchildren, police said.

        Moments later, a second bus was struck, at the intersection of Reading Road and Dana Avenue, police said.

        Officer Ward said the weapon hasn't been recovered, but “it caused a big hole in both buses.”

        A 16-year-old male provided vague clues.

        “He was in the area, and he knows who the other three are,” said Officer Ward, who added that the teen was not deemed a suspect. “He gave us basically nicknames.”
