Congrats
Sycamore grad Presidential Scholar
Martha Hayes, a sociology/pre-med major, was named a Presidential Scholar at Grove City College, Pa., for maintaining a 3.85 grade-point average or higher her freshman year.
The Sycamore High School graduate is the daughter of Kay and Ron Hayes of Symmes Township.
Poster winners
The following were winners in the Severe Weather Safety Poster Contest sponsored by the Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness:
Mitchell Logsdon, Fairfield North Elementary School, third-grade regional winner; Ann Burger, St. Jude School, North Bend, sixth-grade level winner.
Young honor grad
Army Pvt. Matthew Young completed Rigger School at Fort Lee, Va., as Distinguished Honor Graduate.
Pvt. Young, of Northside, attended Purcell Marian and Roger Bacon high schools.
Lifeguards win
Lifeguards from Cincinnati Recreation Commis sion's Krueck Pool in Clifton Heights won the Gold Medal at the American Red Cross State of Ohio Lifeguard Competition.
The team was FloAnn Wilson, Ray Young, Ladon Coggins, Meg Goebel, Paula Rojas-Landivar and Ya-Sin Southall.
EPA scholarships
Michelle Brotherton and Samantha Hoffa, students at the University of Cincinnati, were awarded Environmental Scholarships by the Ohio EPA.
They each received $2,700 for the 2001-02 school year.
Honors Fellowship
Abigail Lee, a freshman in the joint degree program with Columbia University and Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) in New York City, has won an Honors Fellowship to JTS.
The Sycamore High School graduate is the daughter of Claire and Matthew Lee of Blue Ash.
