Parking plentiful for football, concert

By Dan Horn
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Parking should not be a problem today when thousands of football and Britney Spears fans converge on Cincinnati's riverfront.

Tens of thousands of people are expected for two high school football playoff games in the afternoon and for Ms. Spears' sellout concert at 7 p.m.

City and county officials say plenty of parking spaces will be available, with prices ranging from $3 to $6.

The first football game begins at 1 p.m. at Paul Brown Stadium, with the second game expected to start an hour after the opening game ends.

The concert at Firstar Center should start around the time the second football game is ending.

Because the start times are staggered, county officials don't expect the big crowd to roll in all at once. And with so much construction around the riverfront, that's good news.

“We really don't anticipate any problems,” said Jeff Wallace, a consultant for riverfront construction.

He said about 7,000 public parking spaces are around Firstar Center and the stadium, with thousands more available in private lots along Third and Fourth streets.

City lots will charge $3, while county lots charge $5. Many of the private lots also plan to charge $5.

Mr. Wallace said parking for the games will be in the riverfront lots west of Cinergy Field and adjacent to Paul Brown Stadium.

Those lots can be reached by taking Central Avenue to Pete Rose Way or Mehring Way. The lots also can be reached from Second Street and Ted Berry Way.

The best parking for the concert is the Western-Southern garage on Broadway, the lots just east of Firstar Center off Pete Rose Way and the lots north of Third Street along Eggleston Avenue and at Sawyer Point.

Fans also should be alert for advisories and parking information on the overhead message boards over the interstates.
