Spirits high as Britney appears

Girls, teens line up for Firstar event

By Lew Moores
The Cincinnati Enquirer

They were dressed in plaid miniskirts. thigh-high stockings and long-sleeved white shirts cinched at their waists. “I love Britney,” said Katie Cassidy, 16, of Indian Hill.

“She's cool,” said Ryane Scott, 17, of Colerain Township.

“She rocks,” said Cera Cox, 18, of Covedale.

“Britney is awesome,” said Kelly Wood, 17, of Symmes Township.

The four teens were among a small crowd of about 200 fans — and parents of fans — who arrived at the Firstar Center at least two hours before Saturday night's 7 p.m. Britney Spears concert.

Cincinnati's concert was Ms. Spears' seventh stop on her 2001 tour that began Nov. 1 in Columbus and will take her to perform 30 dates in 29 cities before the tour concludes in Washington, D.C., Dec. 21.

For Miss Wood this was the second time she has seen the pop diva perform; the last time was two years ago.

“She's grown up a bit,” said Miss Wood.

“She is a great dancer and has a great voice,” said Miss Cassidy.

Cheryl Lanning made the drive down from Urbana, Ohio, with her daughter, Madyson, who is 4.

Ms. Lanning was treating her daughter to her first concert, but she demurred, “I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for her.”

She laughed. “I don't like her, she's a floozy,” she said of Ms. Spears.

        Madyson disagreed.

“I like all of her songs,” she said in a tiny voice.

Carrie Harris came down from Hamilton with her daughter, Chelsea Wyatt, who is 7.

The concert, Chelsea's first, was a surprise.

“I thought we were going to a cheerleading competition,” said Chelsea.

Ms. Harris said that while bedtime for Chelsea was normally 9:30 p.m., even on a Saturday night, an exception was being made for this night.

“I don't have to go to bed at my regular time,” said Chelsea.
