McGwire's home run milestones




        Here are some of the home run milestones in Mark McGwire's career:

        First homer — Aug. 25, 1986, off Walt Terrell of the Detroit Tigers at Detroit.

        No. 100 — July 5, 1989, off Charlie Liebrandt of the Kansas City Royals at Oakland.

        No. 200 — June 10, 1992, off Chris Bosio of the Milwaukee Brewers at Milwaukee.

        No. 300 — June 25, 1996, off Omar Olivares of the Detroit Tigers at Oakland.

        No. 303 — Sets Athletics' franchise record, July 2, 1996, off David Wells of the Seattle Mariners at Seattle.

        No. 365 — Aug. 8, 1997, first homer as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals, off Mark Leiter of the Philadelphia Phillies at St. Louis.

        No. 400 — May 8, 1998, off Rick Reed of the New York Mets at New York.

        No. 449 — Sets new single-season record of 62 homers, Sept. 8, 1998, off Steve Trachsel of the Chicago Cubs at St. Louis.

        No. 457 — Sets new single-season record of 70 homers in final at-bat of the season, Sept. 27, 1998, off Carl Pavano of the Montreal Expos at St. Louis.

        No. 500 — Aug. 5, 1999, off Andy Ashby of the San Diego Padres at St. Louis.

        No. 535 — Passes Jimmie Foxx for ninth on career list, May 14, 2000, off Carlos Perez of the Los Angeles Dodgers at St. Louis.

        No. 537 — Passes Mickey Mantle for eighth on career list, May 18, 2000, off Curt Schilling of the Philadelphia Phillies at Philadelphia.

        No. 549 — Passes Mike Schmidt for seventh on career list, June 23, 2000, off Matt Herges of the Los Angeles Dodgers at St. Louis.

        No. 564 — Passes Reggie Jackson for sixth on career list, July 14, 2001, off Jose Lima of the Detroit Tigers at St. Louis.

        No. 574 — Passes Harmon Killebrew for fifth on career list, Aug. 11, 2001, off Glendon Rusch of the New York Mets at New York.

        No. 583 — Final home run, Oct. 4, 2001, off Rocky Coppinger of the Milwaukee Brewers at Milwaukee.
