Celebrating 25 years of Borgman
Mooney collects cartoons

Second of a series celebrating the cartoonist's work
Attorney and Cincinnati Planning Commission chair Don Mooney has a wall full of Borgmans. Seven of them in his office, all linked to my civic or political activities.

One of his favorites is from 1980, the year he was a Ted Kennedy delegate to the national convention. The cartoon shows Teddy saying, If nominated I will not run ... if begged, what time should I show up?
Another is of the late John Socko Wiethe, once Hamilton County Democratic Party chairman. The caption: Exile of the Chairman for Life. It came about, Mr. Mooney says, when I helped organize an unsuccessful coup attempt in the early 1980s.
The most personal, and probably his two favorites, come from his work on the planning commission when Cincinnati was all wrapped up in controversy over where to put the new Reds' stadium: on the riverfront or at Broadway Commons.
The other came out of the controversy about whether to put a conservatory atop the new Lazarus. It shows a UDF on top of the store.
The Mooneys are an all-Borgman family. Don's wife, Jennifer, a Time Warner Cable vice president, has two in her office. Both are related to the telecommunications industry.
