Celebrating 25 years of Borgman
Fine whine gets fan a cartoon
By Jim Knippenberg
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Third in a series
Judy Harrell isn't sure, but she thinks she wrote Jim Borgman his first fan letter. Besides an original Borgman hanging in her Cleves home, she has at least a storage-box full of Borgman's work ... sometimes I feel like a mother with a very messy scrapbook.
Judy Harrell has an original Borgman cartoon.

She got her original when I whined to my husband about not having an original Borgman.
By chance, husband Walt had a friend at the Enquirer. The friend arranged for Walt to meet Jim. Close to the end of the meeting, Jim told Walt to go through a file cabinet and pick something out.
My husband chose something very "us.' It concerned garbage and its age while resting in the kitchen. Mrs. Harrell, for the record, is not a legendary housekeeper. But she is very forgiving:
Mr. B. and I are often completely opposed politically, but I still admire his grasp of ideas and his draftsmanship ... I even defended him when he produced what others thought was a very controversial cartoon.
