NKU men top Ferris St.

Craig Sanders scored 19 points Friday night as Northern Kentucky University defeated Ferris State 79-71 in the first round of the John L. Griffin/Lions Club Classic in Regents Hall.
Carl Mitchell added 16 points and 11 rebounds for NKU (1-0), which is 20-0 in first-round games of the tournament.
Bobby St-Preux scored 14 points all in the second half as the Norse rallied from a one-point halftime deficit. NKU made 59.3 percent of its shots from the field in the second half.
Johnathan Bowers led Ferris State (0-1) with 21 points and eight rebounds.
NKU will play Central State at 7:45 p.m. today in the championship.
