RedHawks regroup in Hawaii
Miami harbors slim bowl hopes

OXFORD For the first time in school history, the Miami football team will leave the mainland for a game as the RedHawks play Hawaii at 11:05 p.m. today. This is not a fun-in-the-sun trip for the RedHawks. They must regroup against a talented Hawaii team after losing last week to Marshall at home. The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak and eliminated MU from the Mid-American East Division race.
Still, with two games to play Miami (7-3, 6-1 MAC) players and coaches know the importance of winning if they want an outside shot at earning a bowl bid. For the first time in the conference's history, two teams from the MAC will earn bowl invitations.
We have to put last week behind us and realize there are still games to be played, coach Terry Hoeppner said. We plan on enjoying our time in Hawaii and winning a football game. There is plenty to play for
One victory in the last two games will give Hoeppner his most victories in a season since taking over in 1999. Hawaii had a five game winning streak come to a halt when it lost last week to Boise State, 28-21. But Hawaii defeated then-No.19 Fresno State 38-34 at home and is ranked No. 39.
The game marks the third and final road non-conference game of the season for Miami. The RedHawks did not fare well in their first two, losing by a combined score of 75-32 to Michigan and Iowa, falling behind early and never recovering.
Miami quarterback Ben Roethlisberger looks to build on one of the most successful seasons in school history. Already he has compiled solid numbers, throwing for 2,415 passing yards and 21 touchdowns. He is just 111 passing yards and four passing touchdowns from breaking the school's season records set by Mike Bath in 1999.
Hawaii utilizes a spread offense that relies heavily on Nick Rolovich, who has thrown for over 300 yards five times this season.
The game could turn into a shootout with both teams having the capability of putting up big numbers. Hawaii already has scored 66 points in a game.
