Hawks overcome Celtic shootout

ATLANTA Shareef Abdur-Rahim scored 29 points and the Atlanta Hawks beat Boston 112-103 Saturday night, despite an NBA-record 10 3-pointers by the Celtics in the third quarter.
The Celtics' first six shots of the third quarter were 3-pointers, and they shot 10-for-16 from beyond the arc in the period.
The Mavericks set the previous record of nine 3-pointers in a period at Vancouver on March 1, 1996. Houston matched that mark at Seattle on Dec. 9, 2000.
Dion Glover added 24 points for the Atlanta, which shot 58 percent and won for the second time in three games. Jason Terry scored 22 points and Abdur-Rahim finished with 12 rebounds.
Paul Pierce scored 33 points, and Antoine Walker added 23 points and 11 rebounds for the Celtics, who had their three-game winning streak snapped.
Pistons 104, Pacers 98
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. Damon Jones scored 16 points in season-high 20 minutes, leading Detroit past Indiana, the Pistons' sixth victory in seven games.
The Pistons (6-2) are off to their best start since opening the 1996-97 season 11-2.
Jerry Stackhouse scored 18 points and was one of six Detroit scorers in double figures.
Jamaal Tinsley finished with 28 points and 13 rebounds, both season highs. Jalen Rose, a Detroit native, added 17 points for the Pacers (6-6).
Indiana was without Jermaine O'Neal (back) and Travis Best (hamstring). Forward Primoz Brezac left the game with a sprained right ankle in the second quarter.
Timberwolves 103, Magic 95
MINNEAPOLIS Kevin Garnett had 21 points and 16 rebounds as Western Conference-leading Minnesota beat Orlando.
Minnesota (8-1), off to the best start in franchise history, broke the game open with a 26-3 run in the third quarter and outrebounded Orlando 55-33.
Joe Smith had 21 points and 11 rebounds, and Wally Szczerbiak added 20 points and a career-high 14 rebounds for the Timberwolves.
Tracy McGrady scored 25 points for the Magic.
Mike Miller added 17 points in a reserve role, and Grant Hill had 16 for Orlando, which lost its second straight.
76ers 94, Nets 82
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. Allen Iverson scored 28 points, Derrick Coleman had 20 as Philadelphia ended New Jersey's five-game winning streak.
The Nets began the night tied with the Lakers and Timberwolves for the best record in the NBA, but they looked outclassed by a Philadelphia team that dictated the pace of the game and kept the Nets' best players in check.
The Sixers shut down Jason Kidd, who was scoreless (0-for-9 from the field, 0-for-1 from the line) but had 12 assists and eight rebounds.
Aaron McKie made his first six shots and finished 7-for-10 from the field for 14 points with 12 assists, while Matt Harpring had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Sixers, who won their fifth straight.
Kenyon Martin led the Nets with 16, Todd MacCulloch had 15 against his former team and Keith Van Horn added 13.
Trail Blazers 97, Hornets 87
CHARLOTTE, N.C. Rasheed Wallace scored 23 points and Derek Anderson added 20 to lead Portland to a victory over Charlotte.
David Wesley led the Hornets with 19 points. Baron Davis added 18.
Portland (6-5) extended its lead to 13 points before the Davis hit a pair of free throws and the Hornets (4-5) closed within nine points, 75-66, with 8:43 left.
Wallace countered with seven straight points, pushing the Trail Blazers' lead to 82-66.
Nuggets 103, SuperSonics 93
SEATTLE Nick Van Exel scored 38 points to lead Denver to its first victory in Seattle in eight years.
Van Exel scored 30 points in the second half, including two key baskets down the stretch as the Nuggets withstood a late rally by the Sonics.
The Nuggets had lost 16 straight games in Seattle, dating to Feb. 9, 1993.
Raef LaFrentz and George McCloud each had 17 points, and James Posey added 12 for Denver.
Rashard Lewis led the Sonics with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Brent Barry added 22 points.
Warriors 93, Bulls 88
OAKLAND, Calif. Jason Richardson scored a career-high 23 points to lead Golden State past Chicago.
Danny Fortson added 19 points and 11 rebounds for Golden State, which snapped a two-game losing streak and moved a game over .500, its best start in six years.
Antawn Jamison added 16 points and Larry Hughes packaged 14 points and 10 assists for Golden State (6-5).
Brad Miller had 28 points and 10 rebounds for Chicago (1-9), which lost its seventh straight, including its last four road games.
Fred Hoiberg scored 18 points and Trenton Hassell 13 for Chicago.
Memphis 98, Cleveland 93
MEMPHIS, Tenn. Stromile Swift scored 10 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter to lead Memphis past Cleveland, the Grizzlies' first victory of the season.
The Grizzlies snapped a franchise-worst seven-game, season-opening losing streak.
Swift, who lost his starting job after spraining his ankle in the fourth game of the season, scored eight straight points midway through the fourth quarter to rally the Grizzlies.
Shane Battier scored 20 points on 7-for-13 shooting. Pau Gasol had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Jason Williams added 16 points and 14 assists for Memphis.
Lamond Murray led Cleveland with 27 points, including 20 in the first half, and added 16 rebounds. Andre Miller contributed 13 points and 15 assists, but shot just 5-for-16. Reserve Ricky Davis scored 12 points.
Bucks 104, Jazz 93
MILWAUKEE (AP) Glenn Robinson had 34 points and Ray Allen scored 10 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter as Milwaukee rallied past Utah.
Karl Malone scored 30 points, and Donyell Marshall added 22 for Utah.
Milwaukee's Rafer Alston, filling in for Sam Cassell (abdominal strain), had 14 points and 10 assists, both career highs, in 39 minutes.
Rockets 124, Mavericks 87
HOUSTON Steve Francis had 33 points, and Cuttino Mobley scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half to lead Houston to its largest margin of victory in nearly two years.
The winning margin was the Rockets' largest since a 45-point victory over Chicago on March 26, 2000.
Steve Nash led the Mavericks with 21 points. Juwan Howard and Dirk Nowitzki each scored 13 for Dallas.
