Repent will run solo in Jockey Club
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Cincinnati-owned Repent, Breeders' Cup Juvenile runner-up and Turfway Park Kentucky Cup Juvenile winner, will represent Select Stable in Grade III $200,000-added Kentucky Cup Jockey Club Stakes on Saturday at Churchill Downs.
Repent, under Northern Kentucky jockey Tony D'Amico, worked 5 furlongs in 1:00 3/5 and galloped out in 1:40 3/5 for the the mile in the fog Sunday morning at Churchill Downs. It was the fastest of eight official works at the track.
Wow! What a work, trainer Ken McPeek said. That was a fantastic breeze. The way he galloped out, to me, was the most impressive thing here. He just rolls on out like it's no problem.
McPeek has decided against running his other outstanding 2-year-old, Iroquois and Cradle Stakes winner Harlan's Holiday, in Saturday's 1 1/16-mile race. McPeek said the Ohio-bred will will get a break and is being freshened at Longfield Farm in Goshen, Ky.
There is nothing wrong with him, McPeek said. We just felt like we wanted to rest him and bring him back and point him to the Holy Bull.
The Bull Bull Stakes is an early 1 1/16-mile Kentucky Derby prep at Gulfstream Park next year.
