Intelliseek gets new P&G business
Intelliseek, a privately held Cincinnati company, said Monday that Procter & Gamble has expanded the use of its technology for business intelligence.
Intelliseek's Enterprise Search Server program enables companies to find and manipulate information about products and companies on computer networks. P&G will use ESS for several undisclosed operations.
Presently, it is very difficult to access the vast amount of critical business data and information available via the Internet and third-party sources in a comprehensive fashion, said Larry Huston, research and development manager at P&G.
Beryllium plant lays off 130
A company that makes a strong, lightweight metal has laid off about 130 workers in the past two months because of slowdowns in the auto and electronics industries.
Most workers let go at Brush Wellman's beryllium plant in Elmore, Ohio, were hired a year ago during a high-growth period, human resources manager Dave Cahill said.
Beryllium is used in military weapons, golf clubs, auto parts and in the cellular industry.
Mr. Cahill said he expects the military will need more beryllium to replenish its arsenals. Government and military contracts make up about 5 percent of its business.
Elmore is 20 miles southeast of Toledo.
