Kyle Fields, an 18-year-old senior and football standout at Madeira High School, badly injured in the vehicle crash outside Paul Brown Stadium, was discharged from University Hospital late Monday afternoon. His brother Kenny, 20, had his foot run over, but was OK physically Monday.

Kyle was thrown about 40 feet and landed on the right side of his back. He had surgery Sunday night for a shattered right fibula and tibia. A 14- to 16-inch metal rod, held by four pins, was inserted in his leg.
Even with painkillers, he's in extreme pain, said his father, Jim Fields of Madeira.
He's a big strong kid, Mr. Fields said. If he hadn't been in such good shape, I think he probably would have been hurt worse.
Besides the broken leg, Kyle was badly bruised and scraped.
His whole right side is pretty bad, said Tim Viox, his football coach who visited him in the hospital. ... He was conscious through everything, and he remembers it vividly.
He's pretty tore up mentally. He saw everything else happen, and somebody got killed. His life flashed before his eyes when he went flying through the air.
Kenny, a 1999 Madeira graduate, was a standout basketball and baseball player. He is a junior pharmacy major at the University of Cincinnati, where he's on the baseball team.
At school Monday, Kyle's classmates signed cards for him.
We had some students who were a little bit upset, said Chris Mate, principal. ""We gave all of our teachers an update very early (Monday) morning, so they could have accurate information to tell their classes. The teachers pretty much communicated throughout the day, and guidance counselors were available.
Kyle was a defensive lineman for Madeira and made the Associated Press's first team for the Southwest District and first team for the Cincinnati Hills League.
About an hour before Kyle was discharged, six Bengals players came by the hospital and gave him an autographed football, hat and programs, along with an offer to be their guest at any game.
