Council moves to oust mayor
Falmouth's Flaugher denies any wrongdoing

FALMOUTH City council voted Tuesday to begin impeachment proceedings against first-term mayor Gene Flaugher, who confirmed he is accused of official misconduct.
Mr. Flaugher, 71, on Wednesday said council voted 4-2 to start the process of removing him from office.
The mayor, a lifetime Pendleton County resident who served four years on city council before being elected mayor two years ago, denied he did anything wrong. But he has hired noted Frankfort defense attorney Bill Johnson to represent him.
I'll have to prove (council) wrong, Mr. Flaugher said Wednesday.
Reached at home Wednesday, councilwoman Virgiline Moore would not comment on the vote. None of the other five council members could be reached to comment and city attorney Henry Watson did not return a phone call Wednesday to his Cynthiana office.
Mr. Flaugher said the charges stem from allegations he allowed a contractor ired by the city to pour new sidewalks for people he knows in town, charges he said are untrue.
He also believes the charges are politically motivated and being fueled by fallouts he had with disgruntled city employhees.
I think they are trying to embarrass me, he said.
