Two prison guards charged
The Associated Press
COLUMBUS Corrections officers at two state prisons have been charged in inmate assaults.
State Highway Patrol troopers arrested Donald L. Williams, a guard at Ross Correctional Institution in Chillicothe. He was charged with felonious assault in a Nov. 7 incident in which an inmate received head injuries and had four teeth knocked out.
Mr. Williams, 37, of Lucasville, has worked for the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction since 1990, spokeswoman Andrea Dean said. If convicted, he could receive up eight years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
He waived entering a plea Tuesday in Chillicothe Municipal Court and is free on a $5,000 bond. He is on administrative leave.
Ronnie Walker was charged with misdemeanor assault in an Oct. 14 incident at Lorain Correctional Institution. Mr. Walker, 38, is a six-year employee. His initial court date has not been set.
We do not tolerate unnecessary use of force, Ms. Dean said.
