READING Two Reading businesses were recently honored with the Governor's Excellence in Workers' Compensation Award.
General Tool Co. and Viox Services Inc. were recognized for their efforts to provide employees with a safe, cost-effective work place, while also supporting injured workers with safety and return-to-work programs.
Recognition such as this conveys a positive image of our business community, a very important factor in our current revitalization efforts, said Linda Fitzgerald, economic development consultant for the city.
Brian Hicks, chief of staff for Ohio Gov. Bob Taft, and James Conrad, administrator/chief executive officer of the Bureau of Workers' Compensation, presented the awards.
Of 12 state recipients, General Tool and Viox Services were the only two from the Cincinnati area.
General Tool won in the state-funded-award category, while Viox Services won in the Self-Insured category.
General Tool was founded in 1947, and is one of the largest contract-manufacturing firms in the nation. William Kramer is the company's president.
Viox Services, founded in 1946, is a full-service facility-management company. It employs more than 700 people. Mike Viox is president of the company.
