Winton Woods, two-time defending city champion, features Division I college recruits Robert Hite and DeForrest Riley, who have signed with Miami (Fla.) and Penn State, respectively. The Enquirer preseason poll comes out next week, with Winton Woods a top candidate for No.1.
Elder lost all five starters from last season. Senior guard Stephen Miller and senior forward Mike Kroeger are the top returnees.
We'll see how we do right off the bat, against one of the best teams in the state, Elder coach Joe Schoenfeld said. We've got six or seven football guys just coming in, but hopefully we'll get them going quickly.
Other notable games include:
Hamilton vs. Moeller, a rematch of the district final last season that Moeller won 61-60 on a last-second shot.
St. Xavier, the 2000 state champion, meets long time power Oak Hills.
The probable top teams in Northern Kentucky, Covington Catholic and Dixie Heights, playing in back-to-back games.
Roger Bacon, a Division II power that might be better than many Division I teams, playing North College Hill. Bacon features Division I college signees Josh Hausfeld (Miami University) and Beckham Wyrick (UNC Wilmington).
McNicholas coach Jerry Doerger returns to the bench after a one-year suspension, with the Rockets facing Reading.
Covington Catholic has a possible conflict should its football team reach the Kentucky state final. The Colonels basketball team is scheduled to play at 1:30p.m. Dec.1, but its football team could be in the Kentucky Class AAA final at noon that day in Louisville.
If the CovCath football team is playing, we'll adjust the basketball team's starting time, said Tom Gamble, director of DSA Prep Sports.
Tickets are available at the participating schools. Advance tickets for each session are $9 for adults and $7 for students, with admission good for all games that day (Friday or Saturday). All tickets are $10 at the gate.
