Top 25 basketball roundup

Marquette beats Indiana on last shot

The Associated Press

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Dwayne Wade grabbed a loose ball under the basket and scored with 11 seconds left as Marquette upset No. 20 Indiana 50-49 Friday night in the semifinals of the Great Alaska Shootout.

Wade, who scored Marquette's first four points but did not score again in the first half, finished with 21 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Eagles (4-0). Cordell Henry added 12.

Jeff Newton led Indiana (2-1) with 11 points.

The Golden Eagles (4-0) will play Gonzaga, a 67-64 winner over Texas, in Saturday's championship game.

Trailing 49-48, Marquette worked the ball to Oluoma Nnamaka, who had the ball stolen by Indiana's Jared Jeffries. Wade picked up the ball underneath the basket and scored on a layup to give the Golden Eagles the lead.

After a timeout with eight seconds left, Indiana inbounded to Tom Coverdale, who found Kyle Hornsby alone on the right baseline. But Hornsby could not handle Coverdale's pass and the ball glanced off his hands out of bounds with two seconds left to seal the win for Marquette.

Dane Fife's jumper with 1:25 gave the Hoosiers their biggest lead, 23-15, of a sloppy first half. Marquette committed 10 turnovers, matching their total against Tennessee in the first round, and Indiana had 12.
