Stretch of Ohio 126 to get rails
By Walt Schaefer
The Cincinnati Enquirer
QUESTION: Ronald Reagan Highway (Ohio 126), just west of Hamilton Avenue (Ohio 127) and east of Pippin Road has a series of curves behind Arlington Memorial Gardens. There is great need for guardrails in the median there. I have seen two eastbound cars cross over into the westbound lanes. There has been at least one fatal accident and numerous other wrecks on that stretch. - Ben Spears, Springfield Twp.
ANSWER: Kim Patton, spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), said guardrails are scheduled to be installed in the grass median through this stretch of highway next summer.
Q: Why does the new light at Ohio 32 at De La Palma Road in Williamsburg Township, Clermont County, not have a flashing Prepare to Stop sign? Every light on Ohio 32 from Union Township, Clermont County, to Peebles has such a sign except the new one. - Steve Teague, Peebles
A: Mrs. Patton said ODOT soon will install a Signal Ahead warning sign at the approach to this intersection. The sign will be equiped with a constantly flashing amber light.
Q: On westbound Interstate 74 between Rybolt Road and the I-74 and Interstate-275 merge, why aren't there two lanes for I-74 west? I realize that lane restriping was done a couple of years ago to accommodate two lanes for I-275 traffic and the extra lane for I-275 was needed.
However, a new problem was needlessly created by taking away one of the lanes from I-74 west. Isn't there a federal regulation that requires at least two lanes of travel in each direction on an interstate? - Tom Pack, Harrison
A: State traffic engineers said there is no regulation that there be two lanes on interstate highways where two such highways intersect, Mrs. Patton said.
The decision to provide two lanes for I-275 traffic and one for I-74 was based in traffic counts which reveal twice as much traffic uses I-275 than I-74 at this location.
There are no plans to add another westbound I-74 lane, she said.
