More than 2,800 ideas for a better Hamilton County came out of a series of community meetings known as “Community Compass.” Those ideas will be discussed and prioritized at a town meeting Jan. 12 at Music Hall.

        The results of the meeting will create the first ever comprehensive, long-range plan for the county.

        The 2,800 ideas included working on racial equality, balancing development needs with environmental protection, improving the region's economic health and integrating housing.

        Ron Miller, director of the Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission, said the January meeting will combine the principle of an old New England town meeting with 21st Century technology — people will use a wireless key pad to vote on the most pressing issues facing the county.

        “This is a chance for residents to have their voices heard,” Mr. Miller said.

        Commissioner John Dowlin said the goal is to create a countywide plan that will complement the region.

        “For Community Compass to be successful, we need all citizens in Hamilton County to be involved,” Commissioner Todd Portune said.
