NKU men knock off Indy 76-53

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. Carl Mitchell had 16 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots Thursday night as Northern Kentucky University defeated the University of Indianapolis 76-53 at Regents Hall.
Brenden Stowers added 13 points and eight rebounds for NKU (5-1, 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference). Bobby St-Preux and Craig Sanders each finished with 12 points for the Norse, who are ranked No.25 in the NCAA Division II poll.
We had very good balance in our scoring, and we played excellent defense, NKU coach Ken Shields said.
NKU took a 32-24 halftime lead after limiting Indianapolis (3-2, 1-2 GLVC) to 34.4 percent shooting from the field. Mitchell scored eight points and had three blocks in the first half.
NKU will play host to defending NCAA Division II national champion Kentucky Wesleyan College at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at Regents Hall. Kentucky Wesleyan is ranked No.1 in the NCAA Division II poll.
NKU 66, Indianapolis 53
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. Michelle Cottrell scored 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds Thursday night to lead the Norse.
Cottrell recorded her 39th career double-double for NKU (4-0, 3-0 GLVC). Cottrell, a Boone County High School graduate, has 1,801 career points. She needs just 83 points to become NKU's all-time scoring leader.
Amy Mobley (Harrison High School) added 10 points for Northern Kentucky, which shot 51.1 percent from the field.
