Cyclones rally for shootout win
Enquirer news services
The Cincinnati Cyclones rallied on three separate occasions to pull out a 5-4 shootout ECHL victory over the visiting Dayton Bombers Saturday night at Firstar Center.
After the two clubs exchanged a pair of goals in each of the first and second periods, the teams would skate through a scoreless third period and sudden-death overtime session.
In the shootout, rookie forward Mike Henderson, who also added a goal and an assist in regulation, scored the winner for a three-point night.
The Cyclones started goaltender Jure Penko but pulled the first-year netminder just 3:40 into the second period after he surrendered three goals against 17 shots. Steve Briere came on in relief and would finish the night with 31 saves against 32 shots to pick up the win.
With all that this club has gone through of late, injuries, the busy schedule, this win was huge, said Cyclones coach Ray Edwards.
