Morriss retained as Kentucky coach
LEXINGTON, Ky. Kentucky coach Guy Morriss will be retained for the 2002 season, UK announced Sunday. Morriss was hired Feb.6, following the resignation of Hal Mumme.
Athletics director Larry Ivy said at the time that Morriss would be evaluated during the season.
The Wildcats matched last season's 2-9 record, following a 26-15 loss at Indiana Saturday, but the season had some bright spots:
A 56-30 win at Vanderbilt on Nov. 10 snapped a 15-game Southeastern Conference losing streak.
A 38-35 loss to second-ranked Tennessee was the closest UK had come to their border rivals since 1995.
The Wildcats led No. 21 LSU into the final minute, before losing 29-25.
The former offensive line coach completed one season on a five-year contract.
