The following freshmen have received Faculty Scholarships to attend Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio:

Gayle Wirthwine, a graduate of Fairfield High School, and the daughter of Sharon and Dennis Wirthwine of Fairfield; and Jason McElroy, a graduate of Mount Healthy High School, and the son of Karen and Charles McElroy of Bevis.

Faculty Scholarships are renewable half-tuition scholarships.

Award for senior

Alison Ringenburg, a senior at Walnut Hills High School, received a 2001 Book Award from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. The award honors students who exemplify academic achievement, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to bettering the community.

Alison is the daughter of Marguerite and David Ringenburg of Mount Lookout.

Guard promotion

Eric Dieckmann has been promoted in the U.S. Army National Guard to the rank of specialist.

He is with the 1st Battalion, 147th Armory in Cincinnati.

The Western Hills High School graduate is the son of Debby and Bill Dieckmann of Covedale.

Student volunteer

Daniel Pearlman, a freshman in the School of Communication at American University in Washington, D.C., participated in a project in which freshmen contributed more than 14,500 hours of community service at 56 sites around the Washington area. Participants in the freshman project renovated homes with the Jewish Community Center, prepared meals with Foods and Friends for AIDS patients, cleaned parks with D.C. Parks and Recreation, and worked with children at the Capital Children's Museum.

Mr. Pearlman is a graduate of Wyoming High School.

Top teacher
