Some Good News

Family booster to speak

map
Matthew Kelly, speaker and author, has begun his “12 Days of Christmas” tour, starting with a speech at St. Agnes Church in Fort Wright at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Mr. Kelly said he will visit 12 cities in 12 days, including Chicago, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Louisville, Dayton, and cities in central Illinois and northeastern Indiana. He will give free lectures, offering five methods to help strengthen the modern family.

“I deal with building spirituality in the family,” Mr. Kelly said. His speaking tour is sponsored by the Matthew Kelly Foundation in Monfort Heights.

He explained his five methods to strengthen the family:

“First, we have to ask the right questions of our children,” he said. “Only when we ask the right questions can we prove to our children that we really care about them.”

His other methods are playing together, creating a family culture, simplifying our lives and creating a spirit of giving in both parents and children.

“People experience life only when they help others experience it,” he said. “You have to give to live.”

Mr. Kelly, 28, was born in Sydney, Australia. He has conducted his Christmas tour for three years. Since 1993, Mr. Kelly has spoken to nearly 2 million people in 46 countries.

“The Matthew Kelly Foundation is funded by donations,” said Tom Dierker, managing director. “The purpose is to make Mr. Kelly's books available to people who otherwise could not buy them. We conduct speaking engagements in schools where we give away his books. For each book that is sold, we also give away one.”

Mr. Dierker said the foundation has given away 10,000 books written by Mr. Kelly. He said on this tour, Mr. Kelly will give away his book Rhythm of Life.

He has written eight books, his most recent one The Shepherd, a modern parable about living.

Mr. Kelly will end his tour with a speech at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Community of the Good Shepherd Church, 8815 East Kemper Road, Montgomery.
