Mark Tsuang was nominated to be torchbearer by his son Wayne, who wrote: “Raised in a tiny fishing village in Taiwan in the aftermath of World War II, he was the youngest of eight children and lived in a poor home. He aspired to become a doctor, and followed his dream to America.”

Today Dr. Mark Tsuang is a urologist who specializes in male infertility. The 54-year-old married father of two lives in Indian Hill.

In a surprising twist, Wayne also was selected as a torchbearer. He's a senior at the University of Chicago, and is applying to medical schools.

Dr. Tsuang has always wanted to take part in an Olympics. He watches on TV.

“Sometimes when they're about to light the (cauldron) during the opening ceremonies, I'll see him shed a few tears,” his son says. “It's kind of touching and surprising, because he's not a guy that cries all that much. But he thinks it's so amazing to see the entire world come together in one stadium, around this flame.”
