Bus routes may still have future
Fixed routes could still be a part of Butler County's transit system, even though the county will fund only on-demand, curb-to-curb transit service.
The $1.1 million in possible sales tax revenue the Butler County Regional Transit Authority might receive from the county commissioners for Dial-A-Ride service could be used to obtain $1.1 million in federal matching funds.
That federal money could be used to fund fixed routes, said Amy Terango, general manager of the Transit Authority.
But even if that occurred, there wouldn't be enough money to operate all the existing fixed routes. Some existing fixed routes probably would have to be eliminated or altered, Ms. Terango said.
At a recent Friends of Transit meeting, those attending voiced a strong preferance for fixed routes.
The Dial-A-Ride is wonderfully convenient for individuals, but it doesn't serve the greater good of the community, said Diane Johnson, a Hamilton bus rider.
