Lanes may help Ohio 48
By Walt Schaefer
The Cincinnati Enquirer
QUESTION: The traffic congestion at the intersection of Ohio 48 with U.S. 22/Ohio 3 near Maineville in Warren County is really out of control. Are there any plans to add turn lanes to this intersection to keep traffic moving? - Roseann Warden, Hamilton Township, Warren County
ANSWER: A public hearing, part of the environmental impact study for an intersection improvement project, was held Nov. 8, said Kim Patton, spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Transportation. Once the environmental documents are completed, engineering plans and land acquisition will begin. The state plans to add turn lanes in all directions at this intersection. Construction is scheduled for 2003.
Q: Harrison Avenue, in the area near the Sheed and Mullen road intersections, is very rough, narrow and dangerous. Are there going to be any road surface improvements on that section in the near future? - Robert Guilfoyle Green Township
A: Tim Gilday, planning and design engineer with the Hamilton County engineer's office, said the earliest a repaving project in this area will occur is in 2003 or 2004. The county intends to repave the Harrison Avenue between Wesselman Road and Interstate 74 next year and will likely continue repaving the street to the west in future years. Plans for a major road widening in the area show a need for installing retaining walls plus other upgrades.
Q: Why isn't there a No Turn on Red sign at the eastbound Interstate 275/Winton Road exit ramp? The bridge over the interstate impedes drivers' line of sight. - Ed Mayer, Springfield Township
A: Forest Park City Manager Ray Hodges reviewed traffic records, which reveal there has been no issue with accidents at this location. Mrs. Patton, at ODOT, said the state has received no other complaints about line-of-sight or other problems at the location. No changes are planned.
